Memorial Day Tournament - Round 2 Recap

The second round of the memorial day tournament saw three games neck and neck early. Apparently, the baseball gods were enthralled with the idea of extra inning games, as two of the three games flirted with extra innings. But of course, they had to have that offensive explosion and that upset that keeps every baseball fan on their toes.

T.Tech vs FlightAL - "3 Times is NOT? A Charm"
My apologies for the lack of details in this game ahead of time, I had to step out almost immediately after the game and the T.Tech and Flight game was still going on. What I do know, is that FlightAL seemed to constantly push ahead, and remained in control of the game 7-4 until the latter stages of the game. T.Tech fought back to make it a 1 run contest but to no avail, as Flight came through with a win. If anyone on Flight or Tech would like to send me a recap of the game, I am available through PM on Factor and will more than happily recap the game.

What i will discuss is the reset that occurred in the final inning. Again, I respect both Tech and Flight and am giving my objective opinion on this matter. I have no idea whether Tech forfeited or whether the game was played but from what I know, T.Tech should have forfeited that game. The 2 Timeout Rule was in effect last night. The rule is self-explanatory, you get 2 timeouts throughout the entire game. Regardless if the game goes extras or someone has to go, it does not matter. In the Empire-Carnage game, Empire was not allowed to sub a third time because of this rule, even though the game went into extra innings. The GM and the opposing manager informed me of this and I just had to let my team play on.

In the Flight and Tech game, the opposing manager allegedly informed Tech, and he chose to sub anyway. The illegal sub caused the game to crash. Immediately, FlightAL should have won by forfeit. After doing this, Tech was not allowed to sub. Tech though, got a complete restart with fresh stamina all around. Even if they successfully pull that substitution and Puddles does not lag out, they should forfeit. Even if the player subbed in leaves and someone reenters, or they play with 4, they still forfeit. The advantage they gain because of this is astounding. That aside, FlightAL behind ZachAtack, RBush, Puddles, and DrDeath defeated T.Tech. Kiku came in earlier than he ever has and could not handle the workload. Look out for T.Tech as they try and mold a second pitcher to use in the latter stages of the game.

Final Score: FlightAL 8, T.Tech 7
Next Game: vs Rage
Player of the Game: TBA

Bombers vs Rage - "Nothing Makes Sense Anymore"
Their offense is scintillating, relentless, they play solid baseball all around. They use every part of the field and everyone compliments each other. They have someone who just gets on base, they have power hitters, they avoid striking out at all costs. Their pitching is solid. No, not Bombers. Rage. After almost getting upset by StarFire, Rage dealt the upset of the tournament by dominating the Bombers 12-4.

iPwn gave up 5 of those 12 runs, unable to muster a rhythm. The same culprits from last game, Nataliamo, Busted, and Might added some power while Her0 managed to get aboard with infield singles. This combination managed to get 5 runs off ipwn and then 7 off of KMAN. The Bombers offense could not score off of xxSlayerxx who might just be one of the up and coming pitches in RBO. The leadoff hitter for Rage, Busted, set the tone early, and gave his club all the runs necessary to win.

Final Score: Rage 12 - Bombers 4
Next Game: vs Flight AL *thanks Majewicz for the heads up on the edit*
Player of the Game: Busted

Empire vs Carnage - "No More Subs? No Problem."
Carnage exposed Empire last night. They showed that the key to beating Bombers is to keep the game somewhat close heading into the final frame. If you do that, you get to the bullpen. With Precision on the disabled list, Empire is running one pitcher out there hoping he throws 6 innings. Against Rejected, maybe, against a veteran team and a hot hitter like Wiggy...not so much.

ElDuque handled Carnage fairly well. Only Wiggy managed any success off of him. Wiggy had 2 homeruns in the first 6 innings and was responsible for half of his teams RBIs in the first 6 innings. The game was 9-5 heading into Carnage's last licks, and that is when everything imploded. The 9 runs for Empire came off the bats of KidNub, Roguee, Pete998, and Kidnasty. KidNub belted 3 homeruns on the night and Pete and Kidnasty added one homerun a piece. In the 6th, Wiggy and company tied the score with a homers by their sub, bNutz. With 2 outs, they would sub in Sparkie to relieve.

KidNasty would be forced to pitch, and he gave up a homerun to Wiggy, his third, making the game 11-9. He would give up one more run make it 12-9 heading into the bottom of the 8th. With their backs against the ropes and 2 outs, Empire's final hope was KidNasty. Sparkie was one strike away, but kidnasty managed to work a 3-2 count and hit a solid single. Pete998 would follow with his second homerun of the night, making it a 12-11 game. The pitcher, Elduque followed with a single of his own, all with 2 outs. The game was now in the hands of KidNub. GG. A 2 run homerun deep and gone sent the Empire ballclub home in walkoff fashion.

Final Score: Empire 14, Carnage 13
Next Game: Bye
Player of the Game: KidNub
