Bothe's Batter Rating Index (BBRI)

This is another one of my bright ideas to add to the RBO Chronicle. Bothe's Batter Rating Index, better known as the BBRI, was developed by the legendary CBothe. Though in need of some minor tweaking to adjust to modern times, the formula still holds some value. I plan to implement the BBRI to the Top Performer Awards on the hitting end of things and then possibly tracking BBRI for all hitters across a tournament.

The BBRI formula factors in batting average, slugging percentage, AB/HR, and strikeouts.

Now, I figured rather than just listing the base for the formula I should put it to good use and rank some of today's top players. To be fair and to include some players of old I'm going to use one season from some players. I used my best judgement in choosing the players "standout" season, but I probably cheated some of you a bit. I'll eventually have a huge excel file with hundreds of players entered, but data entry is boring work. If you wanted to be added to the excel file, even if you are a random RBO player, I'll add you. Just mention it to nubXPRESS in the game client and I'll add you to the excel file and you'll get to see where you rank in a future RBO Chronicle posting. So for now, here are the results of 20 players that I hand selected (players ranked by the BBRI). If you are at the bottom of this list it really isn't that bad of a thing (unless your name is ElDuque). Just wait until I run some of RBO's "champions".

23. ElDuque, 2008-2 - 4.634

As you can see, the BBRI is still pretty good at ranking players. If necessary the formula can be tweaked, but I think it's fine for now. Please note, slugging percentages are skewed under the statistics section of the RBO website for season 2008-2. I have taken this into account and edited the slugging percentages. Also, take note that parameters have recently been tweaked. You can see the difference between a 2008-2 statistic line compared to 2008-1. I ran myself twice just to show that. I'd also like to point out that some players on the list have 3 triples while others have over 100. It affects the slugging percentage, but is more reflective over the player themself. Luckily, slugging percentage is only part of the BBRI and it is weighted properly.
